Vegan actress Kate Mara, known for political TV series “House of Cards,” urges her fans to support chimpanzee sanctuary Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection (LCRP).
The actress visited the sanctuary in Liberia, West Africa, last September and has formed a connection with the chimpanzees.
“Every day, with the help of exceptionally dedicated staff – the Desmonds provide round the clock care to help these orphaned individuals recover from the intense physical and emotional trauma they’ve suffered at the hands of humans,” the actress shared in her Instagram.
“Through their organization, the Desmonds are working in tandem with the Liberian government and global conservation partners to create a better life for these chimpanzees and to ensure that Liberia’s wild chimpanzees remain wild.”
The actress shares that the rescued baby chimpanzees at the sanctuary are victims of bushmeat and live pet trades.
The sanctuary currently has a fundraiser for the chimpanzees and is matched 1$ to 1$ up to the goal of $200,000 until the end of the year.
They are currently with the sanctuary because they have lost their mothers from the bushmeat and pet trade industries and therefore need 24/7 care and rehabilitation until they are ready to be released into the wild.
“Chimps ARE NOT and SHOULD NOT be PETS or be forced to live with humans,” the actress concluded.
