Vegan environment activist Greta Thunberg asked the European Union (EU) to exert the same effort done to help Notre Dame Cathedral to recover from the fire.

Thunberg, known for scolding world leaders for their inability to act on climate change, urged world leaders to exert effort to help save the planet the same way they did with Notre Dame to rebuild after the fire.

“Yesterday, the whole world witnessed with sadness and despair the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris, but Notre-Dame will be rebuilt,” Thunberg said in a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.

“I hope it has strong foundations and I hope we have strong foundations, but I’m not so sure.”

She added that even though most politicians claim that panic does not lead to good results, she wants world leaders to panic as climate change “does require some level of panic” to be solved.

“I want you to act as if the house was on fire. I have said those words before and a lot of people have explained why that is a bad idea,” she said.

“A great number of politicians have told me that panic never leads to anything good and I agree. To panic, unless you have to, is a terrible idea.”

“But when your house is on fire and you want to keep your house from burning to the ground then that does require some level of panic.”

Thunberg, who was named one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential Teens of 2018, was recently nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for leading a youth campaign against climate change.

She and her family went vegan and gave up flying after learning about the massive carbon footprint of transportation, meat, and dairy industries.
