The world’s very first vegan and environmentally friendly luxury hotel sanctuary is planning to open in Thailand.
PlantLife Hotel Sanctuary, created to enjoy the kind and gentle company of rescued animals, is on a mission to provide a luxurious, vegan travel experience without compromising ethics in order to enjoy the vacation.
“If we can live in luxury without causing harm to our planet, to animals, and to our health, then this is what we must do,” said the PlanLife Hotel Sanctuary website. “We believe that it is not necessary for anyone to suffer in order for us to meet the needs of our guests.”
“The wellbeing of our guests, the planet and our fellow animals is tremendously important to us and close to our hearts, therefore we ensure we are vegan in every aspect of our operations and of our lives.”
Founders Joanna and Alex Hellier, who met while traveling, shared that they were disappointed with the lack of vegan and environmentally friendly accommodations.
They added that animal-derived food, plastic-wrapped slippers, and chemical-laden cleaners are hard to avoid at most hotels around the world, which inspired them to build their own vegan and sustainable hotel.
The hotel sanctuary features 23 huge luxury villas on almost 5 acres of coconut-producing land.
It will only serve organic vegan food made with locally sourced ingredients; include furnishings made with organic cotton, bamboo, and pineapple-based leather; aims to be waste-free; and use only solar power.
Aside from human guests, the resort will serve as a sanctuary to 100 rescued animals, including the many cats and dogs rescued from the streets across Thailand.
“We are both long term vegans for the animals, for the environment and for our health,” said the couple.
“We are environmentalists who are passionate about sustainable living. And we are animals lovers who ache to help strays and injured animals more than we are currently capable.”
PlantLife Hotel Sanctuary launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise $870,000 needed to build the resort.
Campaign supporters are considered PlantLife members, who will have a chance to win 1 of 4 weekly prizes of a 3-night stay, a giveaway that the hotel will run for the next 3 years.
