Warner Brothers is already working on the remake of one of his highest grossing films, The bodyguard, released in 1992, with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner and that raised 400 million dollars through ticket sales and has the soundtrack best-selling of all time, featuring several original compositions by Houston herself.
Although this initiative has been speculated since 2011, only now does the story seem to have started, since it transcended the hiring of the Panamanian playwright Matthew Lopez for its script.
By the way, Lopez comes to this challenge with the backing of being a Tony Award nominee for his screenplay for The Inheritance. This work, which was premiered in 2018 at the Young Vic in London, was called “the most important North American work of the century” by much of the specialized critics and marked his consecration as an author.

What is known of what is coming
The specialized magazine Variety said that Lawrence Kasdan of Kasdan Picture, writer and original producer, along with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, will produce the film, while Nick Reynolds will serve as executive producer.
The most interesting aspect to take into account will be the hiring of the leading couple; Although there are several hypotheses, so far there are two that seem most convincing according to sources close to the production: Chris Hemsworth y Tessa Thompson and Channing Tatum and rapper Cardi B.

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are undoubtedly one of the best couples of these times; display a special chemistry as could be seen in Thor: Ragnarok and in Avengers and more recently in Men in Black: International.
For his part, Channing Tatum comes from filming America: The Motion Picture, while Cardi B. acted in Hustler (2019) and F9 (2021). In any case, the production continues to auscultate other possible pairs. As for the script, no details that could give any clue to the characteristics of this remake have transpired.

The romantic film The bodyguard it had a production cost of 25 million dollars and a collection that far exceeded that amount: 411 million. The appeal of the script was to be able to contrast two very different personalities, such as those played by Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, and that indecipherable attraction generated by the opposite characters.
The success of the film was amplified by the soundtrack that sold 48 million copies worldwide and more than 10 million in the United States, where it landed the Diamond album. The film closes with one of the most popular themes of the current songbook, I Will Always Love You, originally sung by Dolly Parton (1974) and which Houston led to the top sales. The album that included this song sold 19 million copies.
The script was written towards the end of the sixties to be interpreted by the couple formed by Steve McQueen and Diana Ross, however it took more than 20 years for Kevin Costner himself to rescue the work to star in and produce it.
