The pandemic displaced the 2020 Met Gala (and its fashion show) from its traditional date in May and la transformed into a two-part event that began this Monday with a mini-fun of the charity party that summons many figures of the show.
Considered one of the most important fashion events of the year, the gala started with a marching band, a gymnast and the first attendants in sensual and sparkling outfits.
Keke Palmer arrived in a stunning earth tone bodysuit, with a tail, while Ilana Glazer She took advantage of her moment on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to show off long, feathery sleeves and a creamy dress with a high neck.

Emma Chamberlain She opted for a gold minidress with cutouts at the waist and a chunky mirror and chain detail. The supervisor and alma mater of the gala, Anna Wintour, arrived early and greeted the crowd accompanied by her pregnant daughter, Bea Schafer, wearing a ruffled floral neckline design.
The gala, which raises money for the museum’s Dress Institute, was postponed from its traditional first Monday in May and became a two-date event. It coincides with the inauguration of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”, the first part of an exhibition at the Met’s Anna Wintour Dress Center.
This year, the gala is co-chaired by the French actor Timothée Chalamet, the singer Billie Eilish, the poet Amanda Gorman and tennis player Naomi Osaka, who they dazzled everyone on their way down the red carpet.

The honorary chairmen are the designer Tom Ford, Instagram sponsor, Adam Mosseri, and Wintour, editor of Vogue and dean of the Met Gala since 1995.
A year with two finery
It should be remembered that the novelty is that, for the first time, there will be a double gala distributed between 2021 and 2022 with the same theme: American fashion. The Met Gala raises most of the annual funding for the Dress Institute.
On May 2 of next year the second part of the exhibition will be held, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”, in the period rooms of the American wing of the museum.

The ritual of the annual fashion festival
Considered the most important night in fashion, guests are encouraged –top performers in music, film, television and more – to host the theme of the exhibition every year, As they slowly climb the red carpeted museum stairs. Interpretation is everything when it comes to how they dress and how they make their entrance.
Billy Porter closed the red carpet in 2019 in a golden outfit of the God of the sun, on a litter carried by six shirtless men as an ode to Ancient Egypt when the topic was exaggerated fashion.
It was the same year that Lady Gaga wore (after undressing) a stunning black bra and matching underwear, before the crowd of journalists after designer Brandon Maxwell helped her with three changes of clothes, including a huge pink outer shell that puffed up in the breeze.

The official dress code for this year is “American Independence”, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation.
The Met Gala, short for the Gala of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, raised over $ 13 million in 2019 for the Costume Institute, which is the museum’s fashion department.
It is the only curatorial department of the Met that has to fund itself and has an important friend in Wintour, who attends the guest list. He has raised so much money for the institute over the years (with estimates of up to $ 200 million) that the wing now bears his name.

Tickets cost more than $ 30,000 -a table can go up to $ 275,000-, but that doesn’t mean that the stars pay their admission. They are often invited by brands and companies that buy tables and are accompanied by the best designers who dress them.
