Award-winning Taylor Swift was the artist who more money generated in the United States during the past 2020, a year in which the singer and songwriter consolidated her position at the top of world pop, among other things thanks to the release of her albums Folklore Y Evermore.
But beyond Swift’s achievement, the pandemic meant a notable loss of revenue for artists in general. And that suspicion has now been translated into numbers: according to a study by the magazine Billboard, the 40 musicians who generated the most money in 2020 in the United States gathered less than half of what they had achieved in 2019, before the outbreak of Covid-19.
In all, that group of forty musicians gender $ 387 million, well below $ 969 million that were taken in 2019. The health emergency made concerts account for only 20 percent of earnings, when in other years they represented 75 percent.
Taylor Swift released two albums during 2020 and her name was repeated among the winners of the various awards that the industry awards throughout the year.
Taylor in the lead
According to the calculations of Billboard, at the head of this privileged group of forty principals was located Taylor Swift. The last winner of the Grammy for the best album of the year was located ahead of Post Malone, Céline Dion, The Eagles and Billie Eilish.
Since 1956, the specialized music magazine has been producing the best-selling album and song lists in the United States. To make this ranking, he combined the income derived from Internet reproductions (on platforms such as Spotify or YouTube), physical sales, the collection of concerts and royalties for copyrights.
Swift, with $ 23.8 million, he won first place thanks to its strong presence on platforms, where it generated 10.6 of those millions. The sales in physical format of the two albums that he released last year, Folklore and Evermore they added another ten million. Virtually no artist currently enjoys that level of physical sales.
In addition, the Pennsylvania singer took $ 3.2 million in copyright income, while live performance sales were zero.
Post Malone was in second position with 23.2 million, although distributed in a very different way compared to Swift. While in streaming it exceeded eight million, it barely earned 712 thousand dollars from the sale of discs in physical format.
Most of its income derived from the tour that it was able to do in the first months of the year and that increased its accounts with 12.4 million, plus another two derivatives of copyright.

Céline Dion, live
The concerts were also essential for Céline Dion, who ranked third with 17.5 million, of which 17 correspond to the twenty recitals he gave before the coronavirus canceled the live shows. His tour remains the highest grossing of 2020.
Something similar happened with The Eagles, in fourth position with 16.3 million, of which eleven correspond to ticket sales. For its part, Billie Eilish owes its fifth place, with 14.7 million, to streaming reproductions (5.9 million) and copyrights (5.7 million).
Céline Dion held her third spot on the top-earning list from her pre-pandemic concerts.
Drake, Queen, The Beatles, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and Lil Baby rounded out the top ten.
Bad Bunny, in position 21, is the Latin artist who generated the most money in the United States during 2020. It was 8.4 million dollars, of which 6.8 million depended on streaming platforms.
