Brother Nature, an animal lover known to feed animals while talking to them, is urging his fans to ditch beef for the environment.
Brother Nature, Kelvin “Kelv” Peña in real life, educated his 2.7 million Instagram followers about the huge carbon footprint of beef.
Posing with a cow he met in Farm Sanctuary, Kelv said: “Some months back I visited a sanctuary @farmsanctuary that rescued animals from slaughter houses and I met this cow that had the most sincere look in her eyes, that told me ‘we all need help’.”
“After doing some research I found out that the meat industry (mainly beef) is one of the most inefficient use of resources on the planet.”
He explained that 47% of land in the US is used for food production, while 70% is used just to grow food for cattle.
“The cattle’s eat, and then burp/fart methane into the air which is so detrimental to the ecosystem and one of the main causes of global warming,” he further explains.
“Long story short, by simple removing beef from your diet, you can not only help save a life, but take a great step into helping save our planet.”
Kelv was met with mixed reactions from his fans, with some claiming that they love meat too much to stop eating it.
“I love you man, but I ain’t giving up my meat. That’s my choice. I’d much rather we end the lobbying in our politics that allows for dirty fuels and nonrenewable energy sources to be so depended on, filling the pockets of the rich and keeping us poorer and in worse health,” said one user.
“Bro… don’t come for my burgers and steaks. You’re the man, but my red meat is above you,” said another.
Another meat eater commented: “I can never be a vegan or vegetarian. F*ck all that.”
On the other hand, vegans and vegetarians are thankful that Kelv used his platform to speak up for the animals and the environment.
“A handsome young entrepreneur becoming woke about the meat and dairy industry and using his previously hobby and comedic platform to now awaken and inspire others? Yes king go off,” said a Twitter user.
“I love this , animal agriculture is the leading cause of climate change, say no to beef,” said another.
A vegan added: “Brother nature is starting to finally wake up. This is huge step for him to finally speak out about this. This shows me that he’s starting to care.”
“Plant based protein is better than animal protein. You can still build bigger muscle and maintain. Don’t get tricked by meat industries threatening you need this much protein and that. I don’t regret a bit going vegan. All LOVE,” another vegan added.
“Red meat not good for people anyway neither is cows milk,” a fan pointed out.
Brother nature is currently vegetarian but confirmed that veganism is his “next step.”
