The cases were confirmed through the study of genomic sequencing of the virus, through the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and the Noel Nutels Central Public Health Laboratory (Lacen / RJ), of the government of Rio de Janeiro.
With this new finding, there are already three cases of the Delta variant detected in Rio de Janeiro since the dangerous strain entered the country. The first corresponded to a man who had a history of traveling to India, where the variant originated.
Now, the cases of a 22-year-old girl and a 30-year-old man, with no travel history, could account for the community circulation of the Delta strain. Both patients were isolated and progress favorably.
