Pizza chain giant Papa John’s now has vegan cheesy potato wedges in the UK, perfect for cheese lovers who want a healthier version of their favorite snack or those who have severe dairy allergies or intolerance.
Following the successful launch of its first-ever vegan pizzas and marmite scrolls in January, Papa John’s once again added 2 new vegan side dishes to its menu: Cheesy Vegan Potato Wedges and Jalapeno Cheesy Potato Wedges.
The new vegan potato wedges are topped with dairy-free cheese from Scottish vegan cheese brand Bute Island. The pizza chain also offers “Vegan Sheese” and Marmite Scrolls as side dish options.
Papa John’s addition of vegan pizzas and scrolls to its menu follows a petition by animal rights organization Animal Aid and vegan magazine Vegan Food UK encouraging the pizza chain to finally offer vegan cheese options like other pizza chain giants.
The pizza chain worked with animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to create the recipes for the new vegan pizzas and scrolls.
Now, Papa John’s is committed to adding more vegan options as the vegan movement rises around the world.
“By adding vegan cheese to their menu, Papa John’s will be showing that they are up to date with the fast-growing vegan movement,” said Animal Aid Campaign Manager Tod Bradbury.
“They will appeal to a much wider audience — be they vegans, those wanting to try vegan food or indeed those who have allergies to dairy products.”
“We hope that Papa John’s decision not only has a positive effect on their sales, but also encourages other pizza chains and restaurants who have not yet introduced a vegan cheese to do so,” he concluded.
