Musician and social media influencer Anthony Gargiula went vegan to improve skin after months of trying many medications to cure his skin problems.

Gargiula, who has been dealing with acne his whole life, took to Twitter to credit the vegan diet for his huge acne transformation.

The 19-year-old musician posted a before and after picture of his face on Twitter, with the caption: “I’ve struggled with really bad acne all my life. After trying many medications that didn’t work for me, 8 months ago, I decided to go vegan to see if it would make a change.”

“These are my results! My skin is still definitely not perfect, but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come.”

“Also, real talk. That photo on the right is the first un-facetuned photo I’ve posted in YEARS….. the acne scars are stressing me out, but 2019 is the year of growth!!”

The tweet, now with more than 12,000 likes, caught the attention of vegans and skincare enthusiasts, with some sharing that they also had severe acne but improved their skin by going vegan.

A vegan wrote: “Same!!!! Now I don’t get ANY pimples or red marks or ANYTHING!! I love it and good for you too!”

“I’m getting the same results! (Still working on those scars though),” said another vegan.

Another Twitter user added: “It’s incredible how a simple plant-based diet can do wonders to your skin.. Who needs medication when veganism is the best option!”

Animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) joined the discussion, saying: “Absolutely incredible! They don’t call it a “vegan glow” for nothing. Congrats on 8 months of compassionate, healthy living!”

In an interview with Plant Based News, Gargiula shared that he has been dealing with skin problems since he was 12 years old but eventually stopped taking medications prescribed by his dermatologist as they were giving him migraines.

“I also tried EVERY. TOPICAL PRODUCT EVER. But nothing seemed to work for me,” he told Plant Based News. “After high school, I moved to Orlando, where I came across a Facebook post from a friend. She talked about how following a vegan diet helped clear up her cystic acne.”

“I had never even thought about changing my diet and seeing if it would affect my skin. Going vegan seemed like it would be a challenge for me but… I had to give it a try.”

“I plan on keeping meat and dairy out of my diet for a long time, probably my whole life.”

“I don’t get too much acne anymore, and as a performer that makes life much easier because I don’t have to put on 5lb of foundation anymore,” he concluded.
