Sandwich restaurant chain Jimmy John’s faces social media backlash after its owner was exposed for being obsessed with killing animals for fun.
Jimmy John Liautaud, owner of Jimmy John’s, was exposed as a big game hunter on social media when a Twitter user posted a picture of him posing with an elephant he just killed, with the caption: “Owner of Jimmy Johns celebrating the killing of a beautiful animal. Remember next time you want a sub. Please retweet!”
The tweet sparked outrage and immediately became viral, with some social media users promising to boycott Jimmy John’s for its owner’s obsession with hunting.
“Despicable, unfathomable, disgusting. The owner of @jimmyjohns. Sorry about your tiny penis, Jim. I’m sure glad there’s lots and lots of other sandwich places,” said another.
Another Twitter user wrote: “I will NEVER eat a Jimmy Johns anything. The glee on this man’s face bespeaks a profound moral rot, a type of incandescent love of cruelty that reaches into the unspeakable. He didn’t kill to eat or survive. He killed for kicks & giggles. I hope he pays for it forever.”
One Twitter user even claimed that there is a video of a drunk Liautaud trying to do something sexual with a sea animal.
“There’s a video of @jimmyjohns drunken up & trying to fuck a porpoise. Jimmy John & Papa John gotta be cousins. Hundred bucks they’re fucking too,” the Twitter user wrote.
Animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) joined in the discussion, encouraging people to continue eating delicious sandwiches but without supporting hunting.
“Subway is delicious and doesn’t support hunting,” PETA replied to one of Jimmy John’s customers who claimed to love its sandwiches but does not want to support hunting.
#BoycottJimmyJohns is now viral on Twitter. However, Liautaud and his restaurant chain have not responded to the issue.
