A new vegan documentary that looks at the connection between religious beliefs and how they treat all animals will premiere next month.
“A Prayer for Compassion,” which was recently described as one of the “21 Must-Watch Vegan Documentaries” in 2019, was created by award-winning director Thomas Jackson as well as producer, author, and educator Victoria Moran.
It aims to “inspire and encourage those already on a religious or spiritual path, to expand their circle of compassion to embrace all life, regardless of species, and make choices in alignment with this value.”
It also aims to answer the question: “Can people who identify as religious or spiritual come to embrace the call to include all human and nonhuman beings in our circle of respect and caring and love?”
“I feel it’s time we challenge ourselves, as people of faith, to truly live the teachings of compassion that are at the heart of all spiritual and religious traditions,” said Jackson. “The future of our children depends upon it.”
A Prayer for Compassion partnered with Million Dollar Vegan, a global campaign that offers to donate $1 million to charity if Pope Francis would go vegan for Lent.
It features Jackson on a journey across America, Morocco for the UN Climate Change Conference, and India to answer the questions: “Can compassion grow to include all beings?”
It will also look into different religions to call on people of faith to come together and create a world in which “the wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them,” according to Isaiah 11:6.
“I was very moved by the many voices that make up this powerful documentary and by the unwavering conviction with which so many spiritual leaders spoke of the imperativeness to act now, align our actions with our spiritual values and take responsibility for humanity’s treatment of animals,” shared vegan actress Evanna Lynch, who is one of the supporters of Million Dollar Vegan.
