In his first game since Beyond Meat’s IPO, NBA All-Star Chris Paul wore a Beyond Meat hat to last night’s playoff win against the champion Golden State Warriors in the Conference Semifinals.
In a sport where athletes’ game night fashion choices are almost as big of a pre-game story as the actual game, Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul went with a unique combination of clothing.
His attire consisted of a Florida A&M sweater, paired with brown and black plaid pants, which were tucked into his white socks that extended over green and black Nike Air sneakers to match the A&M colors and a Beyond Meat hat.
This came just days after Beyond Meat became a publicly traded company, hitting more than a $3.5 billion valuation on its first trading day, becoming the best-performing IPO of any major American company since 2000.
Chris Paul is a Beyond Meat Brand Ambassador and an investor in the company, so he a lot to be happy about, in addition to the Rockets’ 126-121 win against the two-time defending champions in an overtime thriller, of course.
Paul is one of a growing number of NBA athletes who tried Beyond Meat and were impressed with the vegan meat alternatives, made to mimic meat in taste and texture.
Like Kyrie Irving, Javale McGee, Victor Oladipo and other athletes, Paul has had great things to say about Beyond Meat plant protein giving him an edge in the sport.
In February, Paul was announced as a Beyond Meat investor and Beyond Meat Ambassador for the company.
As a Beyond Ambassador, he was featured in a commercial, which aired during last night’s games and is part of Beyond’s Meat’s “Go Beyond” campaign.
In the ad, Paul talks about setting a good example for his son, Chris Paul, Jr., in life as well as with diet choices.
Prior to Paul, Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving, who is vegan, was also featured in a Beyond Meat ad.
“After playing the amount of games, doing the amount of recovery stuff, working out as much as I do, it demands a very specific diet. Beyond Meat is the best thing that I could be a part of and it only helps me better perform as an athlete,” said Irving.
Down 1-2, Paul and the Rockets will look to even up the best-of-seven series with the Warriors on Monday night.
