American rapper and TV personality Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, known professionally as Cardi B, will launch an affordable vegan fashion line despite wearing feathers in this year’s Met Gala.
Cardi B collaborated with online fashion store Fashion Nova to launch an affordable vegan clothing range following the success of her first collection that was launched last autumn.
“This one is different than the first because we have more color. We have more cutouts, it’s more fun,” Cardi B told ET. “It’s more summertime, but it also has that Matrix look that I like.”
“I wanted a neon jungle [for this] shoot — vintage, desert vibes. I really wanted it to look like a high fashion campaign because we’re doing high fashion on an affordable budget.”
The new vegan clothing line includes 47 looks and 107 pieces. Its prices range from $29 to $99, while its sizes can be up to 3X.
“I study what people want,” Cardi B added. “I read what some of the pros and some of the cons [were] of my last collection.”
“So it’s like, OK, it’s going to be a little more fun. More summertime vibes. And I think people are going to like this one.”
Despite launching a vegan fashion line, Cardi B chose to wear feathers in this year’s Met Gala.
Speaking about the Met Gala attendees who wore feathers, animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said in a statement: “With all those privileged folks in attendance, you’d think the Met Gala could afford a little compassion for one night.”
“Those feathers once belonged to living, feeling animals and were ripped out of their bodies, which were left bloody, broken, and destroyed.”
The American rapper has also been caught wearing fur a few times this year, which pushed her fans to call her out for refusing to wear cruelty-free clothing despite many brands and countries banning the animal-derived products due to animal welfare concerns.
An Instagram user commented: “STOP KILLING THE ANIMALS CARDIIIII FOR YO OUTFITS!! YOU CAN DRESS FLIEERRR THAN THAT WITHOUT KILLING THE ANIMALS!!”
“I love your music but I wish you would really stop promoting fur wearing! Please look into the process, it is extremely cruel,” said another.
The new Cardi B x Fasion Nova vegan fashion line is now available online.
